AMAZING WAYS TO CLEAN WITH BAKING SODA AND VINEGAR

Who doesn’t love a handy hint. I am always looking for new and easier ways to clean around the house. Anything that can free up my time to spend it with my family or doing other things, gets my tick of approval. So when I tried out these suggestions I was really impressed.

Thermos flasks and vases

  • To clean flasks and vases, place a tablespoon or two of baking soda into the flask, then a good glug of household vinegar.

  • It will start to bubble, but wait for the bubbling to subside before placing the lid on the flask, otherwise you may have an explosion on your hands.

  • Shake the container a few times.

  • Allow to soak for one hour, but preferably overnight if the stains are bad.

  • Then rinse out it out and rinse with tap water. Let dry before refilling.

Got a clogged kitchen sink?

  • Before you reach for the plunger, see if you can fix the problem using baking soda and white vinegar.

  • Pour about 1 cup of bicarbonate of soda down the sink and then pour in about 120ml of white distilled vinegar.

  • Place the plug in the sink for about 10 minutes while the 2 chemicals will fizz. Rinse through with boiling water

Whiter and brighter colours in your clothes

I love this because the baking soda softens the water, so you can actually use less detergent. Simply add 1/2 cup baking soda to your usual amount of liquid laundry detergent. Also when you want to add bleach to your wash, add 1/2 top-loading machines (1/4 cup for front-loaders) increases the potency of bleach, so you need only half the usual amount of bleach.

Removing burnt food from glass

Sprinkle baking soda over the burnt areas, add a cup of vinegar and let sit overnight. Once the fizzing has subsided, I sometimes add water to fill the dish. Scrub in the morning.

Make glasses sparkle

Put one cup of vinegar in the bottom of your dishwasher before you run the cycle. Once the dishwashing cycle is completed watch your glasses sparkle. No more cloudy glasses!
