I was hoping to post this yesterday, but as most parents will understand school holiday time can be a bit hectic. It is good to be around the kids and their friends, and it still amazes me how grown up they are getting, but you do have to keep them occupied.
Another way to help eliminate plastic from your life is to buy in bulk. Buying in bulk makes sense, as not only will you save on packaging, but you’ll save money (as bulk food often comes at a discounted rate) and, if you drive, you save on fuel avoiding shopping more frequently. Bulk goods require less overall transportation by the manufacturer before arriving at the supermarket. Less plastic packaging and advertising and packaging, makes buying in bulk more affordable.
You will have to keep in mind that you will need storage space. If you are tight on space consider using part of your linen cupboard for preserves, getting a freezer and keeping non-perishables in your garage or attic.
If you are lucky enough to live near a bulk store, you can bring your own containers. Bring cardboards boxes to the fruit and vegetable shop or market and buy produce that will last or you can freeze or preserve.
Here are a few items you can buy in bulk
Buy in Bulk
Before you go out shopping making a list of what you need is important. It is very tempting to buy items in bulk because they are cheaper, but do you really need them. Purchasing in bulk has many great benefits for both you and the environment, so it is worth the time planning and consciously buying in bulk to avoid much of the plastic waste that has been created by individually packed items.
